ABSTRACTS Abstracts are due to Cynthia Kempe by December 15, 2005. They should be submitted electronically to ckempe@swri.edu as a Microsoft Word or Text file. No special formatting is required. Please include your complete mailing address in your corresponding email. The program committee will consider each abstract to determine if the material should be presented orally or as a poster. LODGING Rooms will be available at either the Yosemite Lodge or the Ahwahnee Hotel. Meeting participants must make their own lodging arrangements directly with the Reservation Center using the reservation form available on this web site. CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST AND BOX LUNCHES A continental breakfast will be provided each day, Tuesday through Friday, in the Cliff/Falls Room of Yosemite Lodge, which is where the workshop will be held. Breakfast will consist of bakery selections, yogurt, granola, fresh fruit, fruit juices, milk, coffee, and hot teas. A box lunch will be offered Tuesday through Friday for $10. The box lunch includes a sandwich (ham, turkey, or roast beef), chips, potato salad, fruit, trail mix, cookie, and drink. Meeting participants can reserve these lunches on a daily basis. The cost of the lunch will be billed to your room. The lunches will be delivered to our meeting room eliminating the need to go through the line at the Food Court. This option is especially convenient for individuals who plan to ride the bus to Badger Pass or for hikers wanting to hit the trails during our afternoon break. RESTAURANTS Three restaurants are open for business within Yosemite Valley during this season. The Food Court at Yosemite Lodge is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It offers cafeteria and fast food-style selections in a casual setting. The Mountain Room at Yosemite Lodge is open for dinner only. It offers casual, sit-down service. The Ahwahnee Dining Room at The Ahwahnee Hotel is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Reservations are suggested for all meals. Also, gentlemen are respectfully requested to wear a sport coat or nice sweater in the evening in the Ahwahnee Dining Room. More information on these restaurants can be found at http://www.yosemitepark.com/. POSTER SESSION The poster session will be held Wednesday evening at The Ahwahnee Hotel from 8:30 pm to 10:30 pm in the Solarium, Winter and Mural Rooms, and Underlounge. These areas will be available for our use beginning at 3:00 pm, at which time you may set up your presentation. Tables and easels will be arranged in these areas on which you can place the foam core boards that will be provided for your presentation. Each board measures 30 in. x 40 in. Two boards are provided for each poster. We will have tape and pins available for your use. Transportation will be provided in the evening from Yosemite Lodge to The Ahwahnee Hotel. During the afternoon there is a shuttle service within Yosemite Valley that provides transportation between the Valley destinations. Hors d'oeuvres and a hosted bar will be provided during the poster session. SKIING Downhill and cross-country skiing are available at Badger Pass within Yosemite National Park. Each day of the meeting (Tuesday through Friday), the Conference will provide bus transportation from Yosemite Lodge to Badger Pass and the return. Depending on road conditions, it is a 45-60 minute drive from the Lodge to Badger Pass. Badger Pass is giving us a slight discount on mid-week lift tickets.
Adult all-day midweek: $24
Meeting participants will be given coupons for these discounted rates. Present the coupon
at Badger Pass where you can charge the lift ticket to your room. There are no discounts
available for weekend lift tickets, rental equipment, or lessons. There is no "fee" for cross-country
skiing. However, the rental fee for cross country skis, boots, and poles is $13. Downhill
equipment may also be rented on site. If you would like to bring your own equipment,
there is a luggage area on the bus to accommodate it and lockers are available at Badger
Pass for a daily rental fee. Additional information can be found at TIRE CHAINS Yosemite National Park requires all cars to carry tire chains. Listed below are four places in Mariposa, off of Hwy. 140, that rent and/or sell tire chains.
